BIBLE STUDY ASSIGNMENT – DECEMBER 26, 2012

READING THE BIBLE IN 52 WEEKS

THE BOOKS OF HEBREWS, JAMES, 1, & 2 PETER, 1, 2, & 3 JOHN, & JUDE

On December 26, 2012, we will nearly finish our study of the New Testament by reading all of the General Letters Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude. The books help the New Testament “finish strong!”
Remember: THREE-A-DAY IS THE EASIEST WAY! There are 1,189 Chapters in the Bible and to read the whole Bible in 52 Weeks, one must read an average of 3.25 Chapters every day!
Here in week fifty-two, we have the last of the epistles of the New Testament that were written by various unknown, well-known and little known authors. Let’s do this!
Earlier versions of King James Version had Paul as the author of Hebrews but now most Bible scholars agree that Paul did not write this letter. What do you see in Hebrews that tells you that Paul was probably not the author?
What is the central message of the Book of Hebrews?
When preachers and Bible Study teachers say that Jesus said to God the Father “prepare me a body” and sent him to save his people, which verse in Hebrews are they referring to?
Where in Hebrews do we find a good response to those who say it is not important to come to church?
The Book of James is the oldest of the general letters in the New Testament and it is probably the most Jewish of those letters as well. Who wrote James? How do you know?
What do you think is the main message of James?
James also emphasized the importance in the Christian life. What is the famous verse in James about the power of the prayers of those who are in a right relationship with God?
James 1:17 is my favorite verse in this book. What is your favorite verse or verses in the book of James?
Because James 2:24says in that men were justified by works and not faith alone and Paul says in Romans 3:28 men were justified by faith alone, many thought there was a battle of doctrine between James and Paul. What do you think? Faith must be accompanied by works or faith alone justifies?
Who wrote 1 Peter?
What is the main message of 1 Peter and which verse has it?
Where in 1 Peter is the great passage that calls the Christ the “living Stone?” Which Old Testament Scripture is quoted in that passage?
Where in 1 Peter is the beautiful Scripture about the “royal priesthood”? What does that verse say about the status of all Christians?
Where in 1 Peter do you see the powerful verse about the devil as a “roaring lion”? What does that metaphor mean to you?
Who wrote 2 Peter? How do you know?
What is the main message of 2 Peter?
Who wrote 1 John? How do you know?
What is the main message of 1 John?
Where in 1 John do we find the awesome verses about the true nature of God and love?
Who wrote 2 John?
What is the main message of 2 John?
Who wrote 3 John?
What is the main message of 3 John
Why do you think we have these three short letters from John?
Who wrote Jude? Why do you think Jude was written?
What is the main message of Jude?
What is the famous passage in Jude that Pastor Rivers uses for the benediction almost every Sunday at Charity?
What is the awesome word in Jude?
