TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS:

MINISTER: By what common and gracious experiences do we enter into spiritual fellowship and covenant relations with God and with one another?

CONGREGATION: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

1. Read Jesus’ great commandment in Matthew 28:18-20 NLT and tell us what you think Jesus meant by “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…”?

2. How does Romans 8:14 help us understand the importance of being led by the power of the Holy Spirit in becoming disciples of Jesus the Christ?

3. Describe in your own words how the decision to accept Christ should influence the way a person should live, think, and feel?

4. Describe in your own words when you accepted Christ and how it made a difference in your life?

5. What do you think is the meaning of the phrase from the responsive covenant: “and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,”

6. Can you read Acts 8:36-39 and explain to a non-believer why the act of baptism is also a public profession of our faith?

7. What do you think Pastor Rivers means when he says during baptism “there is no power in this water?”

8. Can you explain the beauty and power of the effective metaphor that Paul uses in 1 Corinthians 12:13 to show that baptism has a spiritual dimension as well as the physical of going down in the water?

9. Can you read 1 Peter 3:20-21 and explain how Peter shows us that like Noah’s ark saved his family, remembering our baptism can also be our “ark of safety”?

10. What memories do you have of your baptism and did it change your understanding of your Christian faith?

11. Which of the three images mean the most to you and why?

a. being buried and raised with Christ

b. being in the ark of safety

c. drinking in the Spirit

12. While going through the trials, temptations and tribulations of everyday life, how can remembering your baptism help you become a better disciple?
